Cabarrus County Dedicates Monument to Fallen First Responders

Posted: Updated:
Cabarrus County now has its first memorial for fallen firefighters. The Cabarrus County Emergency Services Memorial was dedicated Saturday. The memorial is located on the corner of Church Street and Corban Avenue in downtown Concord.

The monument has the names of fallen first responders etched in granite, a Maltese cross, a Star of Life, the Fireman’s Prayer and a plaque for the Cabarrus County Firemen’s Association. The bricks on the monument are engraved with the name of each fire, EMS and rescue squad stationed in Cabarrus County.

Ashelyn Earley’s brother-in-law, Josh Earley, died while fighting a house fire in Cabarrus County. Josh was 23 years old. Ashelyn Earley says, “Seeing his name in the granite again, it brings back all those memories.”

Ashelyn Earley says it’s nice to have a place nearby to remember Josh. She says in the past, the family had to travel to Raleigh to see a firefighters’ memorial. She adds, “Having one here in our hometown, it means the world to us.”
