The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and “First Night” hope to help children in the Charlotte community bring in the New Year safely.
The kid’s celebration will be from 1-6 pm. Children will be able to countdown starting at 5:50 pm for their own New Year’s celebration.
For adults and families, the festivities will begin at 7 pm and last until midnight. The countdown will feature a rising crown to represent the Queen City. Security precautions will be implemented for the events. No weapons or alcohol will be allowed.
Command Posts will be set up for children who are lost during the event. Children under 13 have a curfew of 10 pm. After 10pm, 13-15 year-olds must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
CMPD says calling 911 is the best way to dispatch a police officer to a particular area.
