Family finds signs in ashes of house fire

CANON, Ga. -

You can call it a Christmas miracle: A man manages to escape his home before it is destroyed in a fire. Two other items made it out of the house intact and it could be taken as a sign from above.

The Evans family woke up on Christmas morning to a fire at their home in Canon, Ga. They say despite losing almost everything, they still have each other.

"About 7:25, I woke up and it sounded like rats or paper in the walls. It sort of shocked me and I hopped up thinking I smelled smoke," said Tony Evans.

His wife and daughter had fallen asleep after opening presents and escaped the fire. Tony was able to make it out as well.

After the smoke settled, he noticed two treasured items were spared, barely touched by the effects of the fire: the urn of his mother's ashes and the family Bible.
