Desirae Young knows great ways of saving for the new year. An extreme coupon guru, she is known as Diva Desirae in the coupon community and she saved for the holiday by shopping in April.
“Target puts their toys 70 percent off in January and April, so I rack up on holidays, birthdays, and more.”
Desirae says a great tip for customers is to shop on clearance racks throughout the year in order to be ready for Christmas. She shopped in the stores around the holidays for baking and holiday dinner items to get better deals.
She started buying items two weeks before Thanksgiving.
“Most stores already have their best prices before Black Friday. You just have to keep your eye out on them,” said Desirae.
Desirae has advice for saving during the new year and with her eight years of experience she considers herself a guru.
“My advice for anyone who wants to start using coupons is to go at a slow pace, and educate yourself first. So many people jump into coupons not really knowing a whole lot about them.”
Desirae began couponing eight years ago; after she found out she was pregnant.
“My husband and I just got married and we were living on less than 20 dollars a week, to spend on groceries after everything was paid,” said Desirae.
“I researched ways to save money and couponing is the first thing that I found and ever since then I have been addicted.”
To begin couponing in the new year, Desirae’s advice is to learn how to read coupons, use them, and the store policies.
Instead of making a grocery list of wants, make a list of things that are on sale only. Make your weekly meals from sale items and stock up on those items instead of going to the grocery store.
“I only buy things that are 60 percent or more off of the retail price” said Desirae.
Desirae has a coupon blog which breaks down coupons and deals that can help everyone with their weekly grocery shopping. Her next course on coupon saving will be in January. The date for her course will be mentioned on her blog site, extremesavingswithdivadesirae.com.
