Safety stressed as shoppers seek last-minute gifts

Posted: Updated:
COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Police are warning last-minute Christmas shoppers to be careful while they search for gifts. Thieves are known to take advantage of the holiday crush.

According to Officer Mike Bowman of the Cobb County Police Department, 60 percent of the major crimes in the county involve entering automobiles. During the holidays, break-ins are especially prevalent.

Bowman reminded shoppers not to leave valuable items in the car. Shoppers should also visit stores in the daylight as much as possible. If shopping at night, park in a well-lit area and shop with another person. Don't buy more than you can carry and always be aware of your surroundings, Bowman said.
