Charlotte’s NBA franchise will officially change its name from the Bobcats to the Hornets after this season. The team’s new logo will be unveiled by owner Michael Jordan at Saturday’s game on against the Utah Jazz.
Just hours away from the revealing of the new Hornets logo, the return of the franchise was the talk of Uptown.
It’s likely there are very few fans looking forward to Saturday night more than Evan Kent. He and his brother, Scotty Kent, started the Bring Back the Buzz movement to get the Hornets back to Charlotte.
“It just started when me and my brother were watching the Bobcats game, you know, saw how apathetic the crowd was, and started thinking, it wasn’t like this when the Hornets were here,” said Kent, . “Next thing, you know you have a Facebook page and a Twitter page, and the snowball just happened.”
The movement got a lot of support from other fans. The grassroots movement may have had an impact on Jordan's decision to bring the name back to Charlotte last summer.
“It got to the point where they just couldn’t ignore it and we’re this loud,” he said. “I mean we gotta be pretty annoying but you can’t ignore it."
