Investigators say one man is in custody after a standoff and chase involving two separate wrecks with the Marshal's Office and Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office on Thursday afternoon. Officers say 29-year-old Montez Gaddy is now in custody and will soon go before a judge.
Otis Hamilton, with the Marshal's Office, says Gaddy was wanted for firearm related and federal probation charges.
Hamilton says an officer spotted Gaddy leaving as a passenger in a car from a house on Edison Avenue late Thursday morning.
Investigators made a traffic stop, and they say Gaddy jumped into the driver’s seat and took off, sideswiping a deputy marshal’s car. Deputies say a second law enforcement officer with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office got into a wreck with a semi-truck while pursuing Gaddy in the Statesville Road area.
The car chase ended on Woodstone Avenue at an apartment complex, in north Charlotte. Hamilton says Gaddy then ran away and barricaded himself inside a nearby house. After an almost two hour standoff, Gaddy gave himself up.
