QB Newton struggles, defense gashed as Panthers drop to 9-4
Panthers Win Streak Ends in Blowout Loss to Saints

Drew Brees had his way, Sunday night.
313 passing yards. 4 touchdown passes.
And the New Orleans Saints cruised to a 31-13 win over the Carolina Panthers, at the Superdome.
Carolina (9-4) started the game with two solid drives -- both ending with Graham Gano field goals. But New Orleans would answer that 6-0 start with 31 unanswered points.
Brees connected with Marques Colston for his first two touchdown passes, to give New Orleans (10-3) a 14-6 lead. Then, Brees sandwiched a pair of Jimmy Graham TD hookups around a Garrett Hartley field goal, to cap the Saints scoring.
Carolina finally tallied a touchdown, late in the fourth quarter, as Newton hit Steve Smith in the front right corner of the endzone. But it was far too little, too late.
The Panthers dominated time of possession in the first quarter, running 20 plays before the Saints ran their fourth offensive play. But the Saints would turn things around in a hurry, as Brees & Co. turned on the offensive firepower.
Colston was almost uncoverable on the night, catching 9 passes for 125 yards and the two scores. Graham caught 6 passes for 58 yards and his two scores.
The Panthers now will face the New York Jets, at home, on Sunday December 15th. Carolina still has a hold on the 5-seed in the NFC playoff picture, holding the tie-breaker over the similarly 9-4 San Francisco 49ers.
