Miami, FL -
The win streak continues. It stands at 7. And the Carolina Panthers have now tied an all-time franchise record for consecutive wins. A 20-16 win over the Miami Dolphins moves Carolina to 8-3 on the season.
On Sunday, the Panthers had to do it the hard way. Coming from behind against a good football team, on the road.
The Panthers trailed by as many as 13 points against the Dolphins. But a Cam Newton-led touchdown drive, late in the fourth quarter, won a football game for the Panthers for the second time in as many weeks.
Newton started the drive's forward momentum with a clutch 4th & 10 completion to Steve Smith. That conversion got the Panthers out to their own 39 yard line. A completion to Greg Olsen and a Newton scamper pushed the ball inside the Dolphins 30, after a late hit was called against the Dolphins.
A 3rd & 2 conversion by Mike Tolbert moved the Panthers inside the Dolphins 10-yard line. Tolbert carried again to take the ball down to the 1.
Then, on 2nd & Goal from the Dolphins 1, Newton ran play action, and found Olsen in the back of the end zone, for the game-winning score.
Down 16-3 late in the second quarter, the Panthers began their comeback.
A field goal from Graham Gano in the closing moments of the second quarter gave Carolina some momentum, heading into halftime. Then Cam Newton engineered a 14-play, 83-yard touchdown drive, capped by a 5-yard Newton run for a touchdown. Those two scored closed 16-3 to 16-13.
Carolina improves to 8-3 on the season, still just a game behind the New Orleans Saints in the NFC South, and still in firm control of the 5-seed in the NFC playoffs.
Carolina plays the Tampa Bay Bucs on Sunday, December 1st. That game can be seen on Fox46 Carolinas, at 1 p.m.
