DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Three people were taken to the hospital after an accident involving a school bus in DeKalb County on Wednesday.

The accident, which involved a school bus and a car, took place at Clifton Church Road at Sugar Creek Cove around 2 p.m.

The bus ran onto the shoulder of Clifton Church Road after colliding with a Chevrolet Impala.

There were 17 students on the bus, which was returning from a field trip, FOX 5's Paul Yates reports.

Emergency crews had to free the driver of the Impala from the vehicle's wreckage. That driver and the bus driver were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The injuries to those drivers were not life-threatening, fire officials said.

A parent took a student to the hospital with a foot injury.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
