Jackson EMC warns of scam attempts

Posted: Updated:

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Jackson EMC is warning that scam artists are attempting to trick its customers.

Utility officials told The Times of Gainesville that the scammers are calling customers and claiming their accounts are overdue. They threaten to disconnect service unless the customer gives a credit card number to process a payment.

The utility's director of customer service, Brent Cochran, said customers have lost "significant sums" of money when they agree to give out their financial information to the scammers.
