The Edgewood community is coming together Saturday to help support the Atlanta police officer who was ambushed by a gunman last weekend.
Officer Christopher L. Smith was working an off-duty security job at the Edgewood Court Apartments on Hardee Street on Nov. 9 when a man armed with a shotgun opened fire on him. He suffered wounds from the buckshot to his face and leg. Smith continues to recover from his injuries.
City leaders believe the shooting is in retaliation for the increased police presence in the area.
On Saturday, city and community leaders will hold a rally to help support the officer. The rally will take place at Coan Park starting at 2 p.m.
A $5,000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.
