2 killed in fiery chain-reaction crash on I-75 in Cobb Co.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Authorities have identified of the driver of a BMW who was killed in a fiery chain-reaction crash on Interstate 75 in Cobb County on Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened just after 2 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate just past the Hickory Grove Road overpass. Traffic at that point was slowing due to construction at Georgia Highway 92 in Cherokee County.

Police say the driver of a semi-tractor trailer was not able to slow in time and end up pushing a BMW forward into a white 2011 Chrysler Town and Country minivan followed by several other vehicles.

The BMW burst into flames killing 47-year-old Gregory Alan Millsaps, of Marietta.

The front passenger of the Chrysler, 71-year-old-Barbara Phenicie, of Peachtree City, was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her husband, 72-year-old Dale Phenicie, and his son, 38-year-old Cumming man Jonathan Phenicie, who was driving the vehicle, were also taken to the hospital, but are expected to recover.

The truck driver who started the chain-reaction crash is identified as 40-year-old Vahid Husic, of Lawrenceville. He was transported to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

Two others were transported to the hospital all with non-life-threatening injuries. Four others involved in the crash were checked out at the scene.

Traffic was backed up to Interstate 285 well into rush hour traffic on Thursday as officials worked to clear the scene.
