CHARLOTTE -

Elsa Laffitte is looking for her 80 year-old mother who lives in the Philippines. The last time they spoke was Thursday morning, before Typhoon Haiyan devastated the islands.

“It’s really hard,” said Laffitte. “I don’t know what to do right now.”

The Pineville store owner, who migrated from the Philippines, is missing her mom, Dominga Francisco , and three of her cousins. The storm cut power, making it close to impossible to track down loved ones.

“There is no answer no more,” said Laffitte.

Ten families seeking refuge at her mothers small home are also unaccounted for.

Francisco’s mother is on oxygen, so Laffitte knows she is in danger.

“I can’t imagine what’s going on right now,” said Laffitte.

She reached out to the American Red Cross for help, but in the meantime, all she can do is sit and wait for the call that her mother is OK.

If you can help Laffitte or other in the Charlotte area looking for loved ones affected by the Typhoon, contact the American Red Cross.
