This morning, four men were pronounced dead, on scene by MEDIC.
At 12:42 a.m., the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash on the 12700 block of South Tryon Street. First responders found two males who were ejected from the vehicle and two males located inside, a 1995 Lexus SC300 vehicle.
The driver 32-year-old, Arthur Tyrale Coleman, and passengers: 32 year-old Gabrial Sullivan, 57 year old Robert Clark Jowett, and 50 year old Juan Valentino Simmons were all pronounced deceased.
Traveling to southbound of South Tryon Street, the vehicle suddenly ran off the right side of the road, as it approached the intersections of South Tryon St. and Rivergate Parkway. The vehicle traveled up a small embankment and struck a utility pole. The vehicle then became airborne, struck a streetlight, and then struck a brick sign at the entrance to the Steele Creek Crossing shopping center and landed upside down.
At this time it appears that speed was a contributing factor in the car crash; and it is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the crash. Anyone with information about the crash can contact Detective R.C. Gormican at 704-432-2169.
