UPDATE: Stewart has been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list, and will be eligible to play on Sunday vs. Atlanta.
Charlotte, NC -- Jonathan Stewart is remarkably close. After an offseason ravaged by surgeries, Stewart appears on the verge of being activated by the Panthers for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Neither Stewart nor head coach Ron Rivera made it official that Stewart would return to action on Sunday. But they both were coy with their responses. Rivera even joked "Read between the lines," when asked whether or not Stewart would be activated for this week. That was after reiterating his excitement over what he's seen from Stewart.
Stewart merely said the decision wasn't up to him, and that he'd play if called upon. If he does take the field, the Panthers already strong backfield gets a boost. Stewart, DeAngelo Williams, and Mike Tolbert should pan out to be a very potent combination in the Carolina running game.
Sunday's game against the Falcons starts at 1 o'clock. You can see the game on Fox46 Carolinas.
