Newton Leads the Charge, as Panthers Win Third Straight

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE - Cam Newton is playing the best football of his career. Not because he's putting up huge numbers. He's done that before. No, rather, Newton is at his finest right now because of his consistency.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback has had a remarkable first two seasons in the NFL. As Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was quick to point out Friday, "the best first two years of any starting quarterback in the history of football".

But now, Newton is adding to that legacy, in his third year. The signal-caller has made intelligent decisions on an extremely regular basis, during the Panthers three game winning streak. He has tucked and run when necessary. He's thrown the ball away when necessary. And, true to his skill set, he has slung fastballs to his wide receivers in razor thin windows when necessary.

His passer rating in the past three weeks is outstanding, as Newton has been over 100.0 in each of the three wins in the streak.

But now comes the hard part. Continuing his consistency. If Newton is to be deemed one of the top signal-callers in the league, he needs to perform on this high level throughout a sixteen game season. He'll have plenty of opportunity going forward, as the Panthers schedule gets more difficult down the stretch. After the Panthers game against the Falcons on November 3rd, Newton and Co. face the 49ers and Patriots in consecutive games.
