Carolina prepares for Thursday's Bucs game

Panthers RB Stewart Returns to Practice

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE - Jonathan Stewart was back at practice, Tuesday. It's been a long time coming.

"I've been waiting a long time," Stewart said Tuesday afternoon. "I'm just glad to be part of the team again."

Stewart is returning from a tumultuous off-season, during which he endured surgery on both ankles.

"It feels good. My ankle feels good," Stewart reassured the media. "The recovery time is still something I'm going to have to build up, but today felt good."

"He moved around well, and it was very good to see him out there," said Panthers head coach Ron Rivera. "We're excited. You know, we'll see how he reacts [Wednesday] morning, and see how it goes, and we'll really get a good look at him."

Despite all the excitement about the return of Jonathan Stewart to practice on Tuesday, the return to game action, for Stewart, probably won’t come on Thursday night.  Both he, and coach Ron Rivera, targeted the Falcons game on November 3rd, as a more likely aiming point. Meaning, for the rest of the team, the focus is now on Thursday night’s game against the Bucs, and moving to 4-and-3.

“I mean, it’s big, I think most importantly, you know, not just being over .500, but being 1-0 in the division," Cam Newton said. "That’s really what really counts. So you know, for us, it’s not only a game that, it’s a must win … it’s even a must-must-win, it being a division south opponent.”
