Looking for love has evolved over the years. Some people still use traditional methods and others have embraced online dating sites in hopes of nabbing the right one. But one Charlotte man ditched those philosophies and took it to the extreme.

Gordon Engle spent $15,000 to rent two billboards in Charlotte and one in Chicago looking to find a date.

After hearing about the billboards, The Steve Harvey Show invited Engle to come up to film an episode and help him find his soul mate.

“I think if anyone was asked to be on Steve Harvey or Oprah they would probably say ‘Yeah, why not?”” said Engle. “If you say you didn’t, you’d probably be lying.”

On the show that airs on Thursday on Fox 46, Engle went on eight mini dates. He then narrowed down the women from eight to three, and eventually to one.

“Of the eight girls I met, they were all really, really special,” said Engle.

Engle isn’t ready to jump into a serious relationship just after meeting someone for 10 minutes on a show. He’s taking his time and using his billboards and his website, Help Gordy Find Love, to filter through tons of women wanting to date him.

One email says, “I thought your billboard was adorable…and can tell you have a unique outlook on life, not to mention you are devilishly handsome.”

Another reads, “I don’t know Gordon but for him to go through all of this for a date…he must be a special person.”

Engle has gotten hundreds of responses, but promises he isn’t just using this to date a million women at once.

“I want to get to know someone as friend,” he said. “I want to hang out and see what they are all about. I don’t want to jump into a relationship real, real quick.”
