The Mecklenburg County’s District Attorney’s office is working with Pat’s Place, a child advocacy group in Charlotte to transform one of their waiting rooms for children. Having to testify can be a daunting and overwhelming experience for anyone. Imagine what it might feel like for a child, whether they’re a victim or a witness to a crime.

Kim Alix of Charlotte NC was in Wallops island, VA  September 6th   where the new NASA spacecraft LADEE took off, headed towards the moon. She calls it the experience of her lifetime.

“I was jumping out of my skin,” she said.

Kim was anxious to come back to her classroom at Providence Day School in Charlotte to share her experience with her students. With eager hands and undivided attention she tried to answer all their questions.

“I knew that they were amped about me going,” she said.

Although she felt a personal connection at the launch, she’s more moved by her students. Alix hopes her experience will spark their imagination.

“I think that enthusiasm is contagious. We all amp each other up,” she said.

Who knows, maybe the next Neil Armstrong is in this room, inspired by her experience.
