DETROIT (WJBK) -

Surveillance video shows a man in a black and white coat wandering the parking lot at C&M Auto Sales on Detroit's southwest side.  Right away, Denny Andujar sensed something wasn't right.

"I've been in the business for eight years, and when he first came in, I kind of told the finance manager to watch... because he looked kind of suspicious," he said.

The guy always with his cell phone to his ear said he wanted to see a Tahoe.  Andujar showed him a 2003 white Tahoe they just purchased at auction last Thursday.  The customer said he would return.  He showed up about a half an hour later, but this time Andujar said he didn't talk to anyone, just jumped in the Tahoe parked right in front of the dealership and took off.

"He must have broke the ignition," Andujar said.  "Must have been real professional at it."

This is the fifth car C&M Auto Sales has had stolen in the last seven years, including one just last month.  They had a high tech camera system installed, but that hasn't scared the car thieves away.

"In Detroit it's hard to have a business, people left and right stealing these cars," Andujar said.

Like every other time, owner Mary Colon went to file a stolen car report, but this time Detroit Police wouldn't take it.  She brought her paperwork to prove she bought the Tahoe at auction last week, but it wasn't enough.  She was told she needed a title.

"I'm very frustrated because I need to make a report because this guy is running around and speeding with my truck, and I just bought this car Thursday," she said.

C&M bought the Tahoe on credit for $7,900.  Colon said she doesn't get a title until she sells it.  That is how the dealership does business.

With our help, Colon was able to prove to police she owned the dealership, and she was able to finally file that report.  However, that is only to protect herself.  C&M can't even afford to file another insurance claim.  The owner said it would be cheaper to take an nearly $8,000 loss then report it to the insurance company that was reluctant to take this Detroit car dealership on in the first place.

"We just reported one a month ago, and to report another one, I think the insurance would be triple.  So pretty much it's another loss," said Andujar.
