Rob Wolchek Visits Lutheran North Business Class

Posted: Updated:

I was recently in Macomb Township because Lutheran High School North teaches a course in Hall of Shame 101.

I'm not the teacher, but my FOX 2 Hall of Shame stories are the subject. It's Mr. Slagel's business class, and for the past six years, he's been using my stories to teach young people about the bad guys.

"They really do enjoy them, and really some of the stories astound me," said Steve Slagel.

"You can read it in a book all you want, but you can never really comprehend what people are capable of until you see it firsthand," said one student.

I asked one girl whether my stories are helping her get smarter.

"I think they're helping me get a lot smarter because some of that stuff I had never heard of," she said.

An unlike a textbook, the Hall of Shame is always running down the bad guys who are running the latest scams.

"People are getting more and more creative in their scams. They're getting more and more money off of these scams, and they're getting harder to catch," Slagel said.

"You're only going to get so much by reading it, but … you get more by … visualizing and seeing … an actual situation occur," a third student told me.

After the students watched the stories, they got the inside scoop on how we do it, and these kids say it's making them better consumers and hopefully one day better business people.

"Some people may appear to be really good and then people just turn out to be bad, and it's just a tough world out there," a fourth student said.
