    Monday night Cabarrus County commissioners voted to re-name the North Cabarrus Park in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the start of the Vietnam War. The decision Monday to change the name of the park to Vietnam Veterans Park came after the Kannapolis mayor recommended the park not be re-named because he feels it may be confusing to people in the area.

    Repairs have already been delayed on a bridge that had an emergency closure Monday after inspectors found severe decay in the bridge support. The NC DOT tells My Fox Carolinas the project over the Lake Fisher Bridge on Brantley Road in Kannapolis that was supposed to start Wednesday was delayed because of clearance that is needed for some overhead power lines.

    As we celebrate this Fourth of July, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient who lives in Concord, reflects on the sacrifices made to give us our freedoms. 89-year old Thomas Farebrother was in his last semester of high school in 1943. He knew he’d get drafted during World War II, so he said rather than take his chances getting drafted in the Army, he signed up to join the Navy.
